The U.S. Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey shows corporate AI adoption has increased significantly from 12% to 40% among large companies (250+ employees) between September 2025 and October 2026, though this jump was partly driven by a material change in survey methodology in November 2025. The survey question shifted from asking about AI use in "producing goods or services" to the broader "any business functions," which expanded what activities counted as AI adoption. The Bureau has reportedly faced constraints from Executive Order 14434 regarding AI-related data collection.
