The attack required only a username and spoofed location; attackers could trick the support AI into sending password reset codes to an attacker-controlled email address without verifying the email's legitimacy, completely bypassing two-factor authentication. Meta has reportedly patched the vulnerability after it was active for weeks or months, though the exploit had already enabled account takeovers for ransom and propaganda purposes on the black market.
