The EU has begun enforcing the AI Act: first RFIs to model providers
The EU's AI Office has issued formal requests for information (RFIs) to major AI model providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, marking the first enforcement action under the EU AI Act since obligations became enforceable on August 2, 2026. The RFIs demand details on model security, independent evaluations, market monitoring, and training-content summaries, with violations subject to fines up to 15 million euros or 3% of global turnover. While the move does not currently block any models from the EU market, it establishes formal supervisory oversight with legal consequences for non-compliance or incomplete responses.
