The Era of (Good) Personal Software Has Arrived

Advanced AI coding models have made it feasible for individual developers to build high-quality personal software tailored to their specific needs, moving beyond the initial wave of low-quality AI-generated apps. The author created their own lightweight IDE using Claude AI while managing a full-time job and family responsibilities, demonstrating that LLMs enable solo developers to pursue custom software projects that would otherwise be too time-consuming. While not everyone will be interested in building personal software, AI-assisted development has genuinely opened the door for motivated individuals to create polished tools that solve real problems in their own workflows.
