The end of the AArch64 desktop experiment

A developer ended an 11-month experiment using an Ampere Altra AArch64 system as a desktop after encountering persistent hardware and software challenges. The setup required custom kernel builds every week to work around PCIe controller issues that caused data corruption with AMD GPUs, and eventually the GPU driver began failing around Linux 7.0. Despite the system's 80 cores and substantial RAM, it failed to deliver practical desktop performance and reliability.
