Tesco is suing Broadcom (which acquired VMware) for breach of contract, seeking £100 million in damages, claiming the company refuses to provide support services for perpetually licensed VMware software and is forcing the supermarket to purchase expensive new subscriptions. Tesco argues that Broadcom's actions violate its original contracts with VMware and could disrupt its ability to operate stores and supply groceries, as the virtualization software underpins approximately 40,000 server workloads across its UK and Irish operations. The lawsuit names reseller Computacenter as a co-defendant and follows similar legal actions by AT&T and Siemens over comparable disputes with Broadcom regarding perpetual software licenses.
