The German Sovereign Tech Agency is investing €508,640 into Flatpak, a Linux desktop application distribution platform, over two years to enhance its security and sandboxing capabilities. The funding aims to address technical limitations in Flatpak's current sandboxing features that lag behind proprietary platforms like Android and iOS, and to expand its use in image-based operating systems. The project, led by experienced developers and organized by Modal with Para-Real Ltd., will run through 2027 and aims to build long-term community capacity around Flatpak development.
