Slovakia's national security service discovered a Russian backdoor in NERO R-ONE traffic speed cameras that allows remote access via SMS messages from hardcoded Russian phone numbers. The cameras, which are rebranded Russian devices purchased for a €30 million EU-funded traffic monitoring project, also contain multiple security vulnerabilities including disabled security features and exposed live streams. The Interior Ministry has paused deployment of the 279 cameras after the security alert and ordered an independent audit to confirm the findings.
