A developer has created a tool that makes logos and text appear brighter on HDR displays by adding gain maps—tiny grayscale images embedded in JPEGs that tell HDR-aware software how much brighter each pixel can glow. The technique works best on light elements against dark backgrounds and is compatible with Chrome 137+, Safari 26, and other HDR-capable platforms, while remaining a normal JPEG on devices that don't support HDR. The method enables colors to exceed standard white brightness (up to ~1,500 nits) and even works on text through CSS background-clip techniques.
