A developer created "The Space Project," a self-running space economy simulator built in Rust and Bevy that features hundreds of autonomous AI-controlled ships trading, mining, and managing cargo across a dynamically priced market with no fixed storyline or player objectives. The simulation includes autonomous agents (ships, facilities, populations, and factions) that make independent economic decisions, with markets setting prices based on supply and demand rather than predetermined values. Currently running ~485 live agents at 10-20ms per tick, the architecture is designed to eventually scale to 100,000+ agents in a single native binary with no external dependencies.
