Show HN: A language model that lives in a boot sector
A developer created a neural network language model that runs entirely from a computer's boot sector (512 bytes of assembly code), loading an 11.5 KB quantized model to generate fake Linux boot logs in 16-bit real mode without any operating system. The model uses a simple architecture with character embeddings and one hidden layer, with all computations performed using integer math to fit within the extreme size constraints, producing plausible but fictional system messages like PCI device registrations and kernel events.
