Scammers are selling seeds for non-existent plants using AI-generated images depicting fantastical flowers with colorful leaves shaped like birds, butterflies, and cat heads. While fake seed scams existed before AI image generators, the technology has made the scheme significantly more prevalent on major online retailers like Amazon, eBay, and Etsy, which struggle to remove fraudulent listings quickly enough.
