Reduce GVisor Cold Starts with GPU Snapshotting
Cerebrium has developed GPU memory snapshotting technology that reduces cold start times for AI model inference by over 80% by checkpointing fully initialized containers—including loaded libraries, model weights, and compiled kernels—and restoring them in seconds rather than minutes. Instead of rebuilding the runtime from scratch on each scale-up, the system pauses execution, dumps CPU and GPU memory to storage, and quickly restores the pre-warmed state on demand. This addresses a critical production challenge where startup times of several minutes force teams to keep GPUs warm, over-provision resources, and add unnecessary infrastructure complexity.
