Racter (1984)

Racter was a 1984 computer program that generated seemingly coherent English prose entirely autonomously, without human input or predetermined content. The program, written in compiled BASIC, used random selection rules analogous to grammar to produce text that was grammatically correct but meaningless—demonstrating that computers could generate aesthetically interesting and humorous language independent of human experience or intention.
