Pentagon: Palantir AI Overreliance Led to Strike Killing 123 Iranian Children

Pentagon investigators found that overreliance on Palantir's Maven AI system contributed to a February 2026 U.S. strike that killed over 150 people, including at least 123 children, at an elementary school in Minab, Iran. The AI tool was fed outdated targeting data that incorrectly classified the school as a military facility, and personnel expected the system to flag such errors when it was not designed to do so. Palantir has since added features to review underlying intelligence and flag inconsistencies, though the company maintains it is not responsible for the quality of data provided to the system.
