OpenTelemetry faces significant adoption challenges due to a combination of factors: its experimental features, inconsistent support across programming languages, and a steep learning curve compared to vendor-specific SDKs. The core issue stems from a "three-way crash" where strict binary stability requirements, limited maintainers, and massive scope across languages and frameworks create incentives to endlessly debate features rather than ship them as stable.
