NVIDIA's RTX Mega Geometry technology inspired improvements to meshoptimizer to better support hierarchical clustered LOD (level-of-detail) structures, enabling efficient streaming and rendering of highly detailed 3D scenes with billions of triangles. The optimization leverages a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of clusters, where each cluster contains up to 128 triangles at various detail levels, and the system intelligently streams and renders clusters to maintain visual quality while minimizing error. This approach allows massive models like NVIDIA's Zorah demo to be processed and rendered with full raytracing capability in minutes rather than requiring specialized engine branches.
