O(x)Caml in Space
On April 23, 2026, a pure-OCaml implementation of the CCSDS protocol stack successfully booted in low Earth orbit aboard DPhi Space's ClusterGate-2 satellite, featuring end-to-end encryption and post-quantum key rotation. The project, called Borealis, demonstrates OCaml's suitability for space systems due to its safety features and performance capabilities, protecting against security risks in multi-tenant satellite environments where kernel-level vulnerabilities could compromise tenant isolation. The satellite communicates with the ground using a delay-tolerant network approach that treats the filesystem as a network medium, with all data encrypted and authenticated through Bundle Protocol extensions.
