A medical tattoo artist in Bristol says she is "frustrated" by social media platforms repeatedly censoring her posts of nipple tattoos for mastectomy patients, with her pictures being removed approximately 90% of the time despite being legitimate medical work. Lauren Carter's hyper-realistic tattoos are often mistakenly flagged as inappropriate nudity by Meta's algorithms and bots, which struggle to distinguish medical content from bare skin. Meta acknowledged the issue, confirmed that post-mastectomy areola tattoos are allowed on its platforms, and stated it is working to improve how it identifies and protects health-related content.
