New HIV vaccine shows unprecedented success in preclinical study

# Summary Scientists at La Jolla Institute for Immunology and Scripps Research have developed an HIV vaccine that successfully trains the immune system to produce "broadly neutralizing" antibodies, achieving the strongest HIV-fighting antibody response ever observed in primates after 14 years of research. The vaccine works by intervening in B cell maturation to help immune cells overcome HIV's defense mechanisms, particularly its sugar-molecule disguise. Human trials of the vaccine have now begun.
