The Netherlands' central bank has moved 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to the Bank of England in London, citing increased "geopolitical unrest" and the need to improve crisis preparedness. The relocation, completed between March and August 2026, was motivated by concerns that gold held in North America cannot be accessed as quickly in emergencies, whereas gold stored at the Bank of England meets modern international standards and is more readily tradable.
