PlanetScale has launched Neki, a sharded Postgres database system now available in platform preview that scales beyond single-machine limits to handle hundreds of millions of queries per second and petabytes of data. Neki uses real Postgres instances as shards combined with a router, sidecars, and control plane, enabling zero-downtime resharding, shard splitting, and schema changes across a distributed database without application downtime.
