MTG-I2 First Images
Europe's meteorological satellite MTG-I2 has released its first images, showing it will provide high-resolution weather observations of Europe every 2.5 minutes once operational in mid-2027. This unprecedented frequency will enable forecasters to monitor rapidly developing weather hazards more closely and issue earlier, more precise severe weather warnings. The satellite, launched in August 2026 and currently undergoing calibration, captured detailed imagery of Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic from geostationary orbit 36,000 km above Earth.
