Monetization Gateway

Cloudflare announced the Monetization Gateway, a new service enabling customers to charge for digital assets like web pages, APIs, and datasets through usage-based pricing settled in stablecoins via the x402 protocol. The tool addresses a fundamental shift in web economics as AI agents become dominant users—they don't view ads or maintain subscriptions but consume content once, requiring a new micropayment model rather than traditional attention-based monetization. Cloudflare leverages its existing usage-based accounting infrastructure to simplify implementation of these sub-cent transactions at the network edge.
