Modern Decor May Be Straining People's Brains
A new scientific review proposes that certain modern visual patterns—such as striped floors, flickering LED lights, and repetitive geometric designs—may overload the human brain's visual processing system, causing headaches, nausea, and eye strain. People with autism, ADHD, migraines, dyslexia, and other neurological conditions are disproportionately affected, likely because their brains have reduced ability to suppress overactive visual signals. The researchers argue that the brain evolved to process natural environments efficiently, and artificial patterns in modern urban spaces demand excessive neural energy, potentially triggering physical discomfort.
