Mistral AI announced Mistral Large 4 ("Le Chonk"), a 1 trillion-parameter multimodal model with 49 billion active parameters that ranks as the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks. The model excels in critical workloads like cybersecurity, manufacturing, and finance, surpassing closed frontier models in visual grounding capabilities. It is fully developed and deployed in Europe via Mistral Cloud infrastructure, with API access available immediately and an open weights release planned for late October.
