Meta's ships facial recognition on smart glasses

Meta has embedded complete facial recognition infrastructure on its smart glasses companion app, including three face-detection models and a local database capable of identifying people and triggering notifications. However, the functionality is currently disabled for ordinary users—the recognition pipeline is fully assembled and functional but gated by Meta, meaning this is not evidence of active secret identification but rather the technical capability to do so built into the device.
