Meta Pauses Employee-Tracking Program Following Internal Data Leak

Meta has paused its Model Compatibility Initiative (MCI), an employee-tracking program that monitors keystrokes, mouse movements, and screen content, following an internal security breach that exposed the collected data to unintended workers. The security issue, discovered on June 18, made sensitive MCI data accessible to more Meta employees than intended, reigniting employee concerns about privacy and data protection that had been raised since the tool's April launch. The company says it will only re-enable the program once it is confident in its data protection controls and has gathered sufficient information to assess the tool's long-term value.
