Meta has introduced Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter open-source AI model designed to run locally on consumer devices like PCs and Macs with a single GPU, enabling use cases such as local coding agents, function calling, and evaluation without requiring cloud infrastructure. The model was trained through a novel distillation process from Meta's larger Muse Spark model and optimized for agentic workflows with strong performance on reasoning, code generation, and tool use benchmarks comparable to larger models. Meta is releasing the model weights under an Apache 2.0 license on Hugging Face with developer integrations for llama.cpp, MLX, and ExecuTorch coming in the following days.
