A researcher successfully replicated an experiment from a scientific paper that makes biological tissues transparent by soaking them in tartrazine, the bright yellow-orange food dye found in Doritos. By soaking a 2mm slice of raw chicken breast in a tartrazine solution for 6 hours, the tissue achieved partial transparency with a gummy bear-like appearance, allowing grid lines to show through underneath. The effect works by shifting the refractive index of water to match that of proteins and lipids, reducing light scattering in the tissue.
