Magenta RealTime 2: Open and Local Live Music Models

Google's Magenta team has released Magenta RealTime 2 (MRT2), an open-source AI music model that enables real-time, interactive music generation on standard laptops, particularly MacBooks with Apple Silicon. Unlike previous offline generative music models, MRT2 achieves ~15x lower latency than its predecessor and allows musicians to control it via MIDI, audio, and text inputs simultaneously, functioning as a playable instrument within DAWs or standalone applications. The release includes a 2.4B parameter open-weights model, a Python library, a C++ inference engine, and example applications designed to help developers build new music software.
