Anthropic has released Paper Office, a suite of Python packages designed to help AI agents safely and accurately edit Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files. The new packages, built on legacy open-source libraries, achieved a 92.5% success rate across tasks compared to 80.7% for existing packages, while significantly reducing instances where agents resort to direct file manipulation. The tool addresses a key bottleneck in professional adoption of agents by enabling them to edit documents using the same techniques humans do, maintaining formatting and relationships within complex Office file structures.
