Linux 7.3 merges kernel patches that improve VRAM management for games, allowing more stable performance when games use more VRAM than physically available. While running out of VRAM forces the GPU to access slower CPU memory over the PCI bus, the performance impact depends on how much data needs to be fetched—accessing small amounts of CPU memory can be manageable, but fetching over 1GB per frame makes 30 FPS impossible due to PCIe bandwidth limitations.
