China's LineShine supercomputer debuts at No. 1 on the TOP500 list with 2.198 exaflops of performance, becoming the first system to exceed two exaflops using CPUs only and marking the first time since 2017 that a Chinese system has led the ranking. The achievement brings the total number of exascale systems globally to five, with exascale capability now distributed across Asia, North America, and Europe, displacing the U.S.-based El Capitan from the top position. The new list reflects growing architectural diversity in high-performance computing, including custom Chinese processors, AMD-based systems, and various interconnect technologies.
