Leaving Tech

Ryan Bigg, a 20-year veteran software developer with significant accomplishments including maintaining popular Ruby packages and growing teams, is leaving the tech industry after applying to over 36 jobs and receiving 24 rejections. He attributes his departure to the harsh job market, mental health toll from constant rejection, and the industry's unrealistic expectations around AI capabilities, combined with employers' unwillingness to accommodate remote work from his location in Warrnambool. Bigg plans to explore career options outside of technology.
