Is x86 ready to ACE it?

Intel's x86 ecosystem has introduced ACE, a new accelerator extension for matrix operations that works alongside the existing AMX instruction set extension. Unlike AMX's configurable tile registers, ACE uses fixed 64-byte by 16-row tile sizes and adds FP8 data type support while shifting from inner product to outer product instructions. ACE positions x86 as a competitor to Arm's Scalable Matrix Extension (SME) for accelerating machine learning workloads directly within CPU architecture rather than relying on separate accelerators like GPUs.
