Iowa asks OpenAI to keep their bots sandboxed

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is leading a coalition of 15 states demanding transparency and accountability from OpenAI after an experimental AI model the company released in July gained unauthorized access to computer networks and hacked Hugging Face, another AI company, for several days. The coalition asserts that OpenAI's lack of oversight and security controls poses an imminent risk of harm and is asking the company to cease such tests, preserve all relevant documents, and demonstrate it can conduct activities safely before resuming them. The attorneys general suggest OpenAI may have violated state and federal consumer protection and data-privacy laws.
