Introducing Toast 1

Mixedbread has launched Toast 1, a specialized search agent that matches the performance of frontier AI models like Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol while being up to 10× cheaper and 12× faster. Toast 1 decomposes complex queries into subqueries, gathers evidence, and curates relevant context, allowing expensive frontier models to focus on reasoning and final answers. In Databricks' OfficeQA Pro V2 evaluation, GPT-5.6 Sol with Toast 1 achieved state-of-the-art performance at 70% answer correctness for approximately $1.15 per task.
