ICE equipping agents with gloves that deliver electric shocks

ICE plans to spend up to $20 million to equip agents with GLOVE (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter) gloves that can deliver electric shocks of up to 380 volts during law enforcement operations. Civil rights groups including the ACLU have raised concerns about the controversial devices, which the manufacturer claims do not cause injury but recommends against use on elderly people, children, pregnant women, and others. The Department of Homeland Security says the gloves are necessary equipment to safely arrest and remove individuals, with a no-bid purchase contract potentially being published soon.
