A person running an NTP server discovered persistent cyberattack traffic originating from Amazon Web Services IPs using Assetnote security scanner tools and Tesla domain headers. The attacks appear to be a case of mistaken identity—Assetnote likely scanned the person's server after discovering that Tesla's pool-ntp.tesla.com domain resolves to pool.ntp.org, a public NTP pool that includes the person's volunteer server. The incident highlights how automated security scanning tools can inadvertently target unrelated infrastructure when domain resolution creates unexpected connections.
