I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is notable for its extraordinary linguistic diversity (nearly 1,000 languages), genetic uniqueness, and a remarkable history of isolated highland communities. In 1930, Australian explorers discovered approximately one million people living in the previously unknown highlands of New Guinea, a population that had no contact with the outside world despite the island being nominally colonized by colonial powers. The region's geographic barriers—malaria-infested coastal jungles and cloud-covered mountains—had kept these highlanders completely hidden from external knowledge until the early 20th century.
