The Consensus, a technical writing platform, has developed an AI tells detector to filter out AI-generated articles from its feed, responding to reader surveys showing strong preference for human-written content even when lower quality. The detector uses rule-based analysis rather than machine learning to flag articles with characteristics typical of AI writing, preventing those articles from appearing in featured sections, newsletters, and social media. While the system isn't perfect and can be gamed through more sophisticated AI writing, it aims to promote higher-quality technical writing and encourage AI to be used more thoughtfully in communication.
