A Harvard study led by researcher Matthew K. Nock found that his lab could predict 75% of suicide attempts and 87% of suicide-related events in the week before they occurred among over 600 high-risk adults and adolescents. This represents a significant advance over traditional prediction models, which typically forecast suicide risk over months or years using self-reported data. The findings suggest that real-time monitoring of fluctuating suicidal thoughts could help identify periods of heightened risk and enable more timely intervention.
