HamsterOS: A graphical desktop OS that fits on a 1.44MB floppy

Developer John Swiderski is creating HamsterOS, a full-featured 32-bit graphical multitasking operating system designed to fit on a single 1.44MB floppy disk and run on 386/486-era hardware, with a targeted November 2026 release. The OS includes native applications, DOS support, and features like an automatic VGA safe mode after failed boot attempts to aid retrocomputing enthusiasts. Swiderski has also released HamsterWeazle, a GUI tool that simplifies using Greaseweazle—an open-source USB device for interfacing with legacy floppy drives.
