Hackers Had a Live Feed of Every ID Verification Company Scanned for over a Year

Hackers obtained and are selling over 153 million scans of U.S. and Canadian driver's licenses on the dark web, with the breach traced to IDScan.net, an identity verification company used by major retailers like Target, FedEx, and Hertz as well as cannabis dispensaries. The hackers reportedly had live access to the verification database for over a year, continuously adding records even after the breach was discovered. The incident underscores longstanding privacy concerns about identity verification systems, which experts warn inevitably create massive security risks regardless of their stated safety measures.
