Google shuts down Nobel Prize winning AlphaFold

Google has disbanded its Nobel Prize-winning AlphaFold project, reassigning most team members to focus resources on developing Gemini, its AI assistant. The groundbreaking protein-folding AI program, which won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and has been instrumental in accelerating drug discovery and vaccine development, is being phased out as the company shifts its strategic priorities toward Gemini-related projects and other initiatives like Alphabet's drug-discovery company Isomorphic Labs.
