Google Is Making Private AI Practical with Homomorphic Encryption
Google has introduced HEIR, an open-source compiler that enables private AI inference by allowing computations to be performed directly on encrypted data without exposing underlying information. The tool addresses the traditional trade-off between data privacy and service functionality by using homomorphic encryption, allowing cloud services to process and analyze user data while keeping it encrypted, such as providing recommendations without seeing actual user features. HEIR aims to make this advanced cryptographic technology accessible to non-experts so they can integrate encrypted AI into production applications.
