Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany

Taler Operations AG, a new German company, is being established in Bochum to operate the GNU Taler payment system in Euro and seek an e-money issuer license from BaFin, Germany's financial regulator. The move comes after GLS Bank, the original planned operator, decided in January 2026 not to pursue the role further, prompting the NGI Taler consortium to create a dedicated operator focused entirely on Taler. Once authorized, Taler will initially operate in Germany before expanding across the Eurozone.
