The author analyzed accumulated hardware failures from Floppy Emu manufacturing batches and customer returns, identifying clock crystal issues as the primary culprit affecting 42 boards—caused by a substitute crystal supplier that damaged components during assembly. Other significant failures included defective CPLD chips (6 boards), unprogrammed microcontrollers (5 boards), and soldering problems (5 boards), with crystal replacement and reprogramming resolving most issues.
