England set to be one of the first countries to eliminate hepatitis C

England is on track to become one of the first countries to eliminate hepatitis C, having already met the target of treating 80% of known cases and reducing deaths from the virus by 36% over the past decade. Since 2015, over 100,000 people have been diagnosed and treated through initiatives including A&E blood tests, GP registration testing, and free at-home tests, with antiviral tablets curing more than 95% of cases in 8-12 weeks. England is expected to exceed the World Health Organization's 2030 elimination target for this liver disease.
